Beyond being a relaxing and fun trip we also had fun exploring in and around Palm Springs. While riding the rental car shuttle I described what I thought would be the perfect car for our trip: something old, with a convertible, maybe a car like the one they drive in The Hangover, or maybe some type of muscle car. I am not quite sure why this is my vision of the car I should be cruising the desert in, but I could picture it though I thought it was probably a long shot and we would wind up in a Malibu or similar.

Imagine my excitement when we walked up to the row of rental cars and I spotted a Mustang convertible! Sure it wasn't old like the picture in my head but it was about as close as we were going to get.

We took advantage of our fun little car and did some touring outside of Palm Springs. After looking at a map we decided it would be cool to check out the Salton Sea and upon further investigation we found out one of our favorite tv personalities,
Tony Bourdain, also visited the Salton Sea towns of Bombay Beach and Salton City.

The idea of the whole place is cool, but the towns are no longer what they once were. Dead fish (from the high salt content and lack of oxygen) line the shore, property is in disrepair and there does not appear to be much going on. For such a down and out area, it was fun reading street signs and imagining what once was, streets like Yacht Club Blvd make it sound so fun. Back in the day the Salton Sea had a 15 lane boat ramp, today there is not a single boat on the sea.
